A boot disk is a disk that has system file on it. You can create a bootdisk by putting s disk in your floppy drisk and type Format A: /S under a command prompt in a different PC.

Now for your girl friend’s pc, did she get a recovery CD with the computer? You can try to boot with that first. If you want to boot the CD, you need to make the CD to be the first boot device. You can config that in the BIOS (setup) under boot sequence.

Sounds like to me her hard drive crashed. I hope it is still under warranty. If it is a Dell, you can send the hard drive back for replacement.

Well if the system is asking for a boot disk her hard drive could be dead. Check in the BIOS (also called System Setup on some computers) and see if the drive is being seen. You should contact the manufacturer of the system and see if your still covered under warentee. If you are get them to replace the drive if it’s bad.

If you are using a Dell check for your disks. Look for one called drivers and utilities. That disk has a diagnostic program to test everything on your system. Follow the prompts. You want to use the 32 bit diagnostics and go into custom test to test only the hard drive.

    Good luck!
