I have an area (country) that is approx. 300′ x 300′. The ground is not flat, and very rocky. Last fall I cut approx. 100 trees down to a height of four feet, harvesting the tops for fire wood. I am clearing the land so as to raise goats on part of it, and part for an orchard. My original idea was to rent an excavator and rip the stumps out to burn them, thereby minimizing the disturbance with the land. A bulldozer was not the right ticket because it would dig up all the boulders in the process. We were desirous of keeping the terrain as natural as possible. A friend suggested Stump Be Gone, but all the blogs we get on that product were negative; mainly being more trouble than it was worth and very time consuming to boot. Then stump grinding and or torching the stumps were other options mentioned; more rental stuff. Even after the stump is grounded down, they still want you to torch the roots. We are at a loss in determining the cheapest and most effective route to take.
I should add that only a few trees are larger than 8″ in diameter. Most are of the 4″ - 6″ variety. Some loggers came thru this area 50 years ago and harvested all the big trees. The only really large one’s are down in the ravine, where I won’t be fencing off. Only 10 - 15 % are pine. The rest is Gum, Oak and Hickory for the most part, with a few Walnut in there.

I’ve contacted US Senator Carl Levin; US Representative Bart Stupak; US Hiawatha Forest Service Range Steve Christiansen; US Forest Service Contracting Officer Tammy Thompson to no avail.

This is public information & the employer allegedly also violated criminal law & contractual terms. Yet, everyone has closed ranks to protect this individual/corporation.
