Marine Boot camp Graduation- Going alone?

Denver Boot
Isis asked:

My fiance is graduating August 22 from the MCRD and i am attending his graduation. His mom and dad will be there but we’re all going on a separate ticket. So I will basically be alone. I’m a pretty tough cookie don’t get me wrong, i’m not going to take candy from strangers. I’m trying to find a hotel super close if i am unable to receive a billeting. I really want too know will I be safe to walk around or go to the beach.

I don’t want to sound paranoid but I live in Denver CO and our sense of direction is towards or away from the mountains and i struggle with that lol

I figure a cab will take me any where i want to go but i like second opinions in matters such as this.
Hes in San Diego

If he is from CO then he will be in San Diego-correct? There are a tons of hotels that are just off the base and their main business is Marine Corp graduation.

Write him and he can get you a list of hotels. They will be able to answer all you questions and will be more than willing to help.

Just make sure to make reservations early. They are not all that expensive, but they are not cheap eather.

You will do fine. Fly right into San Diego, as the airport is just outside the Marine Boot Camp. Meaning, if you get off the plane, run across the runway, climb the tall fence that divide the training camp and the airport, you will be standing on the exercise field of MCRD. I will not admit this, but unfortunately, I was a marine and that is were I trained. But don’t tell anyone this, ok. Just ashamed! Someone there will recomment a very nice hotel. Good luck.

    Questions:
*Will you get anytime with your man, and I don’t mean sex?
*Why aren’t you traveling/attending with the parental units?
    *Where is this exactly?
*If you do get personal time with your man, why not just stay for that length of time, instead of wasting time on anything else …… unless of course you have other objectives there?

Go to recruitparents.com and they have suggestions on where to stay in San Diego- many hotels have shuttles to MCRD. You can book billetting 30 days prior to arrival so set your alarm and call at 12:01 am San Diego time to book a room. They are as cheap as $20 a night and it is not too far from the parade deck. While you are there on Thurs morning go to the parade deck at 6:15 am and you should get a glimpse of your Marine practicing for where they will stand during the moto run. Find his platoon # written in chalk on the pavement and you will get the first glimpse of him in 3 months. (this is on the opposite side of the parade deck from the bleachers)
Enjoy the time with your Marine it is an awesome time. I was there 6/25/08-6/27/08.
The city is pretty safe, but like all cities I wouldn’t suggest being out alone at night unless you are on base.
